Robustus

About Robustus
The name Robustus pays tribute to the first Dirk Niepoort wine made in
1990 with the same name and has never been marketed. The inspiration of
Robustus 2004 is based essentially on large traditional Italian wines in which
the prolonged stage in old wood is used to soften the tannins. The idea was to
make a full-bodied wine that represents the Douro and its vineyards, of great
structure, tannins and acidity that gives it vivacity and also years of life in
the bottle. Its aging in barrels, during 4 years, allows to develop a powerful
wine, based on the aromatic complexity in the potent tannins, but well
integrated by the time of stage. Great acidity and capacity of preservation.
