About Doda

Inspired by an old idea of his father, Rolf Niepoort, Dirk associated himself with Álvaro de Castro to create the "perfect wine." The innovative approach was the union of two different wine regions, Dão and Douro. The mixture of different characteristics created an expressive wine, with the freshness and elegance of Dão and the concentration and fineness of the Douro tannins.

The first Doda was born in 2000, a blend of 50% Dão wine, Quinta da Pellada wine and 50% Douro wine from Quinta do Carril. Winemaking was, in fact, the easiest part of the process. The challenge was to overcome all legal problems related to the approval of the label. As a  table wine, wine could not mention: regions involved, year of harvest, year of bottling, or wine history ...

However, the result was an extraordinarily fragrant wine, with aromas of raspberry, great richness and freshness on the palate, firm tannins, very lively acidity, and with a creamy touch as a whole.
